Organizers cancelled the 32nd annual Hunter Hotel Investment Conference rather than set a new date. The conference, co-founded by Atlanta-based hotel investment advisory firm Hunter Hotel Advisors and Georgia State University, was originally set for March 18-20 at the Marriott Marquis hotel downtown.
The 2020 event’s panel participants were slated to include Geoff Ballotti, president and CEO, Wyndham Hotels & Resorts; Mark Hoplamazian, president and CEO, Hyatt Hotels Corp.; and Judi Bikulege, senior managing director, Extended Stay America.
About 1,900 people attended the 2019 conference. The organizers were expecting at least that many this year, if not 2,000, a spokeswoman said.
Initially, organizers postponed the conference, looking at potential new dates in late June or July, a spokeswoman said. But today they announced the cancellation, as follows:
“Friends and Colleagues:
The 2020 Hunter Hotel Investment Conference (the 32rd Annual) is canceled.
The conference, initially scheduled to take place on March 18th – 20th, 2020, was postponed due to the outbreak of COVID-19 and the concern over the safety & health of attendees.
After much deliberation, The Hunter Conference Team has made the difficult decision to cancel the 2020 conference.
We consider the hotel community our extended family. Through continually following the published guidance issued by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the World Health Organization (WHO), and our local health officials we simply do not want to risk the health of any of our attendees or the people with whom they come into contact.
The Hunter Family is here to support you as we move forward together. We understand that during times of crisis, it is vital to gather and encourage one another. However, given the current circumstances, we insist on putting your families and businesses first.
For refunds and additional conference information, please see the Registration & Pricing page under the Attend tab.
We look forward to seeing you next year for the 2021 Hunter Hotel Investment Conference, Tuesday, March 9th – Thursday, March 11th, 2021!
The Hunter Team”
The conference looks at industry trends and emerging opportunities to provide information for investors seeking to grow their businesses.
The hotel industry has been hard-hit by the global pandemic, with Atlanta hotel business expected to drop by 90% in April and 85% in May, following a 65% decline in March, according to the Atlanta Convention & Visitors Bureau.
